This article applies to Arc on macOS and Windows.
In Arc, we Auto Archive idle Unpinned Tabs at the cadence of your choice. This gives you a fresh start and keeps your sidebar tidy.
View & Restore Archived Tabs
View Archived Tabs: hit Command-T (macOS) or Control-T (Windows) and type "View Archive."
Restore Archived Tabs
macOSYou can restore tabs by heading to the Archive (Command-T / View Archive) and hitting the Restore icon next to any archived tab.
WindowsYou can restore tabs by heading to the Archive (Control-T / View Archive) and clicking on any archived tab.
Adjust Auto Archive Timing
By default, idle Unpinned Tabs archive every 12 hours. Viewing or clicking on a tab will always reset the timer! You can select a different Archive timing for each Profile you have, if you like. By default, all Profiles will share the same timing as your "Default" Profile.
macOS
You can adjust the timing in Settings > General > Profiles in the Mac menu bar and change the setting for "Archive tabs after":
Windows
You can adjust the timing in Arc Menu > Settings > Profile then select a Profile, such as your Default Profile, and then change the setting for "Archive tabs after":
Clear the Archive
macOSTo remove all archived tabs at once, just right-click the Archive Tabs box in the Library and select "Clear Archive." You can also do this from the Command Bar (Command-T) by typing "clear archive" and hitting enter.
Can Auto Archive be disabled?
Auto Archive can't be disabled.
This can be a little tough to get used to at first, so here are a few tips to help you adjust:
- Save the tabs you want to stick around as Pinned and Favorites tabs
- Adjust your Auto Archive timing to be longer than the default 12 hours
- Make sure to learn how to restore Archived Tabs just in case some tabs get Archived accidentally
