This article applies to Arc on macOS and Windows.
If you notice Arc working slowly or consuming too many resources and you’ve already attempted basic troubleshooting like disabling extensions and clearing your cache, submit a Performance Trace. Sharing a Performance Trace is the next step to help us uncover the source of the issue.
What is a Performance Trace?
A Performance Trace provides the Support team with more details on what’s happening in Arc when you experience performance issues. These details go a long way in helping us resolve these issues.
Here’s how to submit a Performance Trace:
macOS
- Click Help in the Mac Menu Bar > Troubleshooting > Record Trace
- Select the duration of the trace from the dropdown menu
- Describe the issue you’re experiencing
- Close any tabs you don’t want to to share in the trace
- Click Start Tracing
Note: After it starts, a notification appears with a trace countdown, and when the trace is done, a notification appears indicating the trace is complete.
Windows
- Click Arc Menu > Help > Send Performance Trace
- Select the duration of the trace from the dropdown menu
- Describe the issue that you’re experiencing
- Close any tabs you don’t want to to share in the trace
- Click Start Tracing
Note: After it starts, a notification appears with a trace countdown, and when the trace is done, a notification appears indicating the trace is completed.
What data is shared in a Performance Trace?
When you submit a Performance Trace we receive:
- A list of all opened tabs with their URLs
- A list of every user action taken during the Trace recording (e.g. tab switching, scroll events, etc.)
Important! We do not receive any data from the content of open tabs or cookies.
