Keeping your Arc browser updated is crucial for ensuring optimal performance, security, and access to the latest features. This guide outlines the methods to update Arc on macOS and Windows, providing a smooth and efficient experience.
Update Prompt
- Arc checks for updates regularly. This is the default setting for updates.
- When an update becomes available, a banner will appear in your Sidebar like the one shown above. With this method, you are required to click the banner when you are ready for the update to begin.
- Clicking this banner will restart Arc. Arc will close and reopen after completing the update.
Manually Searching for Updates
If you'd like to update manually, or you are troubleshooting, you can search for available updates on demand:
macOS: Mac Menu Bar> Arc > Check for Updates
Windows: Arc menu > Check for Updates
Auto Update
- Arc for macOS is able to update itself upon waking from sleep. Sleep is most commonly triggered by extended periods of idle time or closing the display on a laptop.
- You must activate this feature to use it.
- macOS: Arc > Settings > General in the Mac menu bar.
- Select the checkbox for Updates: "Automatically update my Arc"
- Arc may also prompt you to turn on Auto Update directly after informing you of a new manual
- If you enable Auto Update from this banner, you can always change your mind in Settings as described above update"
